Faith, 15, from Kenya

This Christmas, please make a difference to more children, like Faith...

Faith is 15, from Kenya. In Faith’s village, drought has pushed many families into hunger. She has often had to walk long distances to fetch clean water for her family, instead of going to school. She has seen the desperate lengths girls must go to for food...like getting married early.

“When there is no food at home, girls look for motorcycle riders who have money to marry them. I always wish that we were in a position to get food. Girls are affected. Girls are the ones who struggle to get food for dinner.”

Many other girls drop out of school because they are too hungry and weak to walk there. Those who make it to school, struggle to concentrate. “Sometimes you get into class, and attend one lesson and the following lesson you feel sleepy, because of the hunger”, says Faith.

That changed in 2023, when World Vision introduced a school meals programme at 12 schools in the region. Every student at the schools now receives a meal with maize and beans. The impact was immediate. In the first term alone, school attendance in Faith’s school rose by about 40 students.

In the past, Faith was at risk of dropping out of school and becoming a child bride. Today, she looks forward to becoming a teacher.

The difference you can make

While girls like Faith are thankfully thriving, thanks to your support, millions more girls around the world are being forced into harsh realities– child marriage, sexual violence, forced labour. And the alarming rise in hunger globally is only making life harder for the most vulnerable girls.

They urgently need your help. Donate today.

Too many children are on the edge of survival. Weak with hunger, at risk of disease, homeless. Your donation will help children survive with life-saving food, water, and shelter.

Recover

During a crisis, many children lose their loved ones, homes, and life as they once knew it. You can help children recover from trauma with counselling and specialist care.

Rebuild

It’s almost impossible to think about the future when you’re fighting for survival. You’ll give children a chance to rebuild their future – to learn, play, and enjoy being a child.

Where will your donation go?

Nutritious food supplies

Nutritious food helps malnourished children recover. In Somalia, Muad, 18-months-old, and his mother attended a World Vision health clinic, where he was diagnosed with severe malnutrition. He received a nutritional supplement, aiming to kickstart his recovery so he can experience fullness of life.

Cash vouchers

Children born into families that are able to meet their basic needs are less likely to be forced to beg, work or marry young. World Vision provides cash and vouchers so parents can choose the foods their family prefers to eat and maintain their dignity. We're ensuring families are empowered to meet their needs without going into debt, reducing the long-term impacts of lost incomes.

Sustainable farming practices

We encourage crop diversification among farmers to reduce their dependence on one source of income that could be impacted by climate related disasters. Children in Eswatini (Swaziland), will benefit from their community's bee keeping and business skills training. By diversifying their products, small, at-risk farming households with become more resilient.

Child protection

When faced with the ongoing global hunger crisis, children can be forced to take part in harmful practices. World Vision works with families to raise awareness for child rights so they aren't subjected into forced marriages, child labour prostitution in order to stay alive.
