Marieme has been supported by her Community Health Worker (CHW), Aissata, since the birth of her first child and considers her as part of the family at this stage. Aissata was trained on Timed and Targeted Counselling (TTC) through World Vision Ireland’s Maternal and Child Health Programme, AIM Health Plus. Since then, Aissata has been visiting Marieme in her home and providing her with support, guidance and advice at critical times.
During the earlier months of her pregnancies Aissata provided Marieme with nutritional counselling on what foods she should try to eat and avoid during while pregnant and encouraged her to take her vitamins and iron supplements. Luckily for Marieme and her family, the community has a garden where they grow beans, eggplant, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, salads, pumpkins, and so many other seasonal products. Thanks to this garden, the community has everything they need in terms of nutrition.
Preparing for a safe and healthy delivery
Aissata helped Marieme to prepare for the delivery of her children by providing her with simple advice like making sure her suitcase is full of clothes, baby clothes and soap or anything else Marieme might need for the delivery. After following Aissata’a advice, we are glad to say that Marieme gave birth to her fifth baby, a beautiful baby boy, without any complications in the local hospital.
